Spiny Waterflea

Spreading the Adirondack Lakes

For those of you who may not have heard the news yet, it is sad news to report that the presence of Spiny Water Fleas has been confirmed in Our Lake. Please take a look at the issue of the Our Lake Almanack to read more about it. It is really ironic that the discovery was actually made by the 9th grade kids from Our Lake School while out in the boat provided by Paul Smith's College. This occurred during their field trip as part of the Our Lake Town POA's ongoing program with the Our Lake School. The students conducted a plankton drag and found the net reservoir filled with what was initially thought to be were fish eggs. As you can read in the attached article, Paul Smith's representatives took the water samples collected that day back for further evaluation which revealed spiny water fleas. The water sample was collected between the Island and the shoreline toward South Shore Road in the deep area .
